Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors and mistakes made by students in solving social arithmetic story problems in every level of SOLO taxonomy. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The information of this study was obtained from students of class VII C of SMP Negeri 2 Jogonalan. This study uses data collection techniques with the methods of tests, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study uses source and technique triangulation. Triangulation of sources in this study are the results of tests, interviews and documentation. The results of this study showed that the percentage of errors in the structural level was 57.26%, the unistructural level was 24.19%, the multistructural level was 6.45%, the relational level was 6.45%, and the extended abstract level was 5.65%. From the results of this study indicate the error of students at the structural level more than any other level. At the structural level the factors that cause students to make mistakes in solving problems are: students do not understand social arithmetic material, students do not answer questions, students only understand a little information, students work on problems not using the right steps so that students' answers are wrong, and do not use data on the problem.
