Abstract

Fashion, clothes, costume, and make up is the form of artifactual non verbal communication. Artifactual communication occured through clothes and arrangement within various artifactual things like clothes, make up, and accesories. Clothes are related to social interaction process in human being. This research aim to find how the use of clothes within non verbal communication in gay. Gay as minority always facing the dilema about their sexual conformity, if they were male so they must be masculine. Contrast with the dressing rule in heterosexual which tend to be guided by norm, clothing style in gay still ambiguous because there are not all of gay feminine. In this research, researcher using qualitative with descriptive methods. Data collection in this research using interviews and observation. The informants in this study were three gay men which collected by snow ball sampling technique, aware to their appearance, and domiciled in Solo. Researcher found that beside as a self-expression, the use of clothing to the informants is to dissimulate their gay status.
