Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to changes in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of legumes of mangrove leaves ethanol extract (Rhizophora apicuata) in reducing blood sugar levels in mice induced by alloxan. The method used in the study was pre and post-test with control group design. Each group was treated orally every day for 10 days. Ethanol extract of mangrove leaves can reduce blood sugar levels significantly, namely the dose of 50 mg / kgBB 48.79%, the dose of 100 mg / kgBB 51.31%, and the dose of 200 mg / kgBB 54.57%. In the statistical test there was no significant difference (p> 0.05) between the 3 doses. The conclusion of this study is that the compounds contained in the mangrove leaf extract are alkaloids, flavanoids, saponins and tannins, extract dosages of 50 mg / kgBB already have activities in reducing blood sugar levels the effect given there is no significant difference compared to the dosages of 100 and 200 mg / kgBB
