Abstract

Parangtritis Sanddune threatened from year to year because the extent of sand cover continues to decline, especially in the core zone. For this reason, periodic and effective mapping and monitoring efforts are needed. This study aims to a) map land cover using the Geographic Object Based Image Analysis (GEOBIA) method in the 2015-2019 time span; b) analyze changes in land cover of the sanddunes core zone during 2015-2019; c) evaluating the results of the restoration of the sanddunes core zone in terms of land cover changes that occurred until 2019. Small format aerial photography (SFAP) was the data used in this study, while the mapping method used was rule-based classification. The land cover of the dune core zone in 2015 were buildings, vegetation, sand, roads, and ponds while in 2019 consisted of buildings, vegetation, sand, and roads. Land cover changes (including its area) was known by overlay of the two classification results data. The cover changes in qualitative perspective were dominated by vegetation land cover that changed to sand, as well as its quantitative review, with a change value of 272.217 m2. Factors that cause it include land-use changes, planting vegetation, and sand mining. Analysis results of land cover changes furthermore can be used as a basis for evaluating the success of the attempt on restoring the core zone Parangtritis Sanddune to date. The evaluation results show that the restoration carried out so far has not had much impact so that it can be said to have not been successful, because the extent of the sand cover decreased a lot (184.333 m2) and icreased in vegetation coverage (168.538 m2) and buidings coverage (18.279 m2).
