Abstract

Abstract The construction of the "Trans Java" toll road in Pemalang Regency has caused problems in the form of changes in social status for the people whose land is affected by compensation. The result of compensation that is many times higher than the normal price is able to change its social status to a higher direction and can be said as a new rich person (OKB) or to a lower social status compared to the previous social status. The objectives of this study are: 1) to analyze the characteristics of the population affected by the construction of the Trans Java toll road in Pemalang Regency and, 2) to analyze the social mobility of the population affected by the construction of the Trans Java toll road in Pemalang Regency. This study used a qualitative descriptive method by conducting in-depth interviews with communities whose land was affected by toll road construction. The informant selection method used in this research is purposive sampling (non random sampling) then snowball sampling technique. Data processing used is that with all observations and interviews made transcripts. The analytical method used uses ecological analysis and interactive analysis including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are 1) Characteristics of informants affected by the construction of the "Trans Java" toll road in this study are the individual characteristics of each research informant. The general characteristics of the informants in this study the majority were male and the age of the informants ranged from 30 years to 60 years. The most recent level of education in this research informant is in the middle school (SMP). The types of informant's work in this study varied from both bound and unrestricted workers. The average income of informants in this study was Rp4,910,000.00. The compensation money received by each informant can reach 2 to 4x times the normal price. The types of money used by each informant varied from building or renovating houses, buying new fields, buying new vehicles, paying for children's medicine, opening a new business, and so on. 2) The social mobility of the people affected by the construction of this toll road is shown by the existence of several changes in the form of changes in employment, changes in income, changes in land ownership, and changes in the condition of homes owned today. Social mobility in terms of employment has increased by 9.09% of domestic servants to traders, then in terms of income, there has been an increase in income by 51%, increasing 2 to 3x compared to before, then viewed in terms of ownership land has increased by 0.7% from previous land ownership, and in terms of changes in the condition of the house owned is much more decent and has new furniture and vehicles. The changes that occur make informants in this study experience vertical upward social mobility. Keywords : social mobility, toll roads development, new wealth (orang kaya baru)
