Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of core thickness variations and weight fraction variations on the increased bending strength of rice husk-strength composite sandwiches and hebel cement brick with hebel cement. The fracture mechanism is observed with a macro photo. The main material of the research is hebel brick with mesh 20, hebel cement, rice husk and aluminum skin. Composites are made by the press mold method. The weight fraction of the amplifier (W_f) core is 30% & 50%. Core thickness is 5 mm, 15 mm and 25 mm, while skin thickness is 1 mm. Bending specimens and testing procedures refer to ASTM C 393-00 standard. Fractional cross section is done by macro photo to identify the failure pattern. The results of this study indicate that the bending moment of sandwich composites has the maximum value at a weight fraction (W_f) of 30% with a core thickness of 25 mm that is 13084.84 N / mm. Stages of failure patterns of sandwich composites are delamination of skin and core and core cracks due to shear stress. Density has the maximum value at a weight fraction (W_f) of 30% with a 5 mm core thickness of 1.94 Tons / m3 where the higher the cores are made, the lower the density obtained. The results of the chemical composition of aluminum-based skins contained 17 elements, but only 3 were the most dominant elements, namely (Al) 99.28%, (Cu) 0.156%, (Zn) 0.156%. Keywords : Sandwich, Weight Fraction, Core Thickness, Bending Strength, Density.
