Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease that needs attention. Diabetes mellitus cannot be cured, but can be controlled by controlling blood sugar levels to prevent complications that can occur. These complications can be minimized if the patient has the ability and sufficient knowledge about diabetes mellitus self care. Diabetes mellitus self care in this case includes routine blood sugar monitoring, diet control, pharmacological therapy or medication, and routine physical activity. Objective: to find a picture of self-care in people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of Baki Puskesmas, Sukoharjo Regency. Method: This research is a quantitative study using descriptive methods. The number of samples in this study were 89 respondents with a purposive sampling technique. The data collection instruments used the DSMQ questionnaire (Diabetes Self Management Questionnaire) which was adapted from Shcmitt et al (2013) with a total of 16 questions, while the data analysis used univariate. Results: the majority were female, most were 56-70 years old, most were laborers, most had junior high school education, most had 1-10 years, and most had diabetes mellitus type 2. Conclusions: from this study, diabetes mellitus self care at a good level. Suggestion: Respondents are expected to change their health behavior better, so that blood sugar can be controlled and reduce the risk of complications.
