Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim to find out the level of metacognitive skills of students in solving the problem of class VIII Linear Equivalent Two Variable Equation System (SPLDV) in terms of their mathematical abilities. The ability of metacognition in this study consisted of four stages: prediction, planning, monitoring and evaluation. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The instruments used in this study were SPLDV material test questions and interview guidelines. The subjects in this study were 6 students taken from class VIII D in SMP Negeri 2 Klaten in the academic year 2019/2020. The results of the validation by the material experts stated that the test questions were valid / suitable for use in the research process. Based on the results of the work on the SPLDV material test instrument to measure the level of metacognitive skills of students based on the level of mathematical ability in SMP Negeri 2 Klaten shows that the level of metacognitive skills is directly proportional to the mathematical abilities possessed by the subject. The results showed that subjects with high mathematical abilities met the four indicators namely prediction, planning, monitoring and evaluation on both questions. Subjects with mathematical abilities are fulfilling the prediction and monitoring aspects for the first problem, in the second problem, all four aspects are met. While subjects with low mathematical abilities only meet the aspects of prediction and monitoring.
