Abstract

This study assessed tsunami hazard in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia which edges directly with the Sunda Strait. The Sunda Strait is one of the tsunamigenic regions in Indonesia. This area is part of the famous Sunda Strait Megathrust which is very prone to earthquake and tsunami occurrence. Based on the previous study conducted by the National Earthquake Study Center, the maximum magnitude earthquake in Sunda Strait Megathrust could be 8.2-8.7 Mw. The purpose of this study was to analyze the height of the tsunami wave run-up and analyze the tsunami inundation in Cilegon. The method used in this study includes tsunami modeling with three earthquake skenarios with strength of 8.2 Mw, 8.45 Mw and 8.7 Mw using COMCOT software and H-loss calculations. Based on the results of a tsunami hazard analysis in Cilegon using geographic information system involving COMCOT software and Hloss calculations, the tsunami hazard in Cilegon is relatively low. The wave time to reach the coast of Cilegon from each skenario was 141,9 minutes, 150 minutes and 84,2 minutes with a run-up height of no more than 3 m and a inundation area of less than 200 ha in Ciwandan, Citangkil and Grogol distric.
