Abstract

This research is motivated by the important role of school principals in bringing school organizations to a more advanced direction. The principal's commitment in implementing transformational leadership is seen as being able to improve the performance of teachers and employees in the school. The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of the transformational leadership of the Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta Junior High School and Daarul Hidayah Sukoharjo Junior High School in improving the performance of teachers and employees while describing the deficiencies in its application. This type of research is field research with a qualitative descriptive analysis that uses interviews, observation and documentation as a data collection method. The results showed that the principals of the Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta Junior High School and Daarul Hidayah Sukoharjo Junior High School had implemented transformational leadership through four components namely idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration but in its application there were still deficiencies so that the implementation of the transformational leadership of the junior high school principal Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta and Daarul Hidayah Sukoharjo Junior High School in improving the performance of teachers and employees are considered not optimal. Shortcomings the principals of Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta Middle School and Daarul Hidayah Sukoharjo Junior High School in implementing transformational leadership in general are not able to provide training, seminars and workshops on a regular basis, the vision, mission, goals and overall school programs have not been implemented, and have not fully paid attention in welfare sector to teachers and employees.
