Abstract

The major problem of this study is how a person redeems himself or herself by his fault in the past. This research is aimed to analyze The Kite Runner movie based on the Humanistic Psychology perspective related to how redemption was represented by the major character In analyzing The Kite Runner, the writer uses qualitative method. The object of this research is classified into two kinds: formal object and material object. The formal object of this research is Amir's redemption and the material object is The Kite Runner movie that was directed by Marc Foster based on the novel of Khaled Hosseini. The primary data source is the movie itself while the secondary data source is the other sources related to the analysis such as the script, books and movie reviews. The technique of data collection is note taking and scene capturing. The study comes to the following conclusions. Firstly, based on the structural analysis, it is clear that Foster suggests the idea of redemption as the major theme of the movie based on the structural analysis. Marc Foster wants to tell to the viewer that redemption is a way to make the condition be a good again and it is never too late to redeem the sin by doing redemption. Secondly, based on the psychological analysis related to the concept of redemption, it can be concluded that redemption is a part of self-actualization. Particularly the person’s bad character and experience can open the way to transform the idea of redemption. Only the self-actualized person can maximize his or her potential fully when he or she can focus on problem-centered not self-centered so that he or she can focus on his or her effort to do redemption
