Abstract

This research aimed to determine (1) the implementation of the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) method and (2) the results of learning on remote sensing utilization materials for landuse identification at SMA Negeri 1 Semarang. This research was a quantitative study with samples of grade X IPS 3 students amounting to 35 people. Pre-Test and post-test are provided to determine the extent to which PLA methods can improve learning evectivity in remote sensing utilization materials. The data collection techniques used in this research were observations and tests consisting of pre-test and post-test, while the data analysis technique used in this research were qualitative descriptive analysis, validation test, reliability test, normality test, and paired sample t test which was calculated using IBM SPSS 16.0 software. The results of the study showed (1) the application of PLA methods on remote sensing utilization materials is divided into three phases: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The planning stages are carried out by making a lesson plan (RPP) and learning materials, as well as the selection of learning instruments, and pre-test. The implementation stage is filled with material delivery, the division of learners into small groups, the provision of discussion materials/questions, and the delivery of discussion results. Evaluation stage is done by submitting the results of discussion and conclusion about the material that has been submitted; (2) There has difference in student learning outcomes from the use of the PLA method on remote sensing utilization materials for landuse identification evidenced by the significance value of paired sample T test < 0.05, so H0 rejected. The difference in learning outcomes that can be seen from the increase in the average value of pre-test and post-test participants is from the value of 57.1 to 70.3.
