Abstract

In the world of education, critical thinking skills are important to be developed to face the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0. critical thinking skills are useful for solving a problem systematically and in detail based on logical reasons. This study describes the ability to think critically mathematically students who take Group Algebra Structure courses through the type of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This research is a descriptive qualitative study using tests and interviews as a data collection method. The results were obtained by students with a very critical thinking level of 7.5%, a level of critical thinking by 30%, a level of critical thinking 37.5%, a level of critical thinking less than 17.5% and a level of uncritical thinking of 7.5%. Furthermore, from the results of the study there are differences in the achievement of indicators of mathematical critical thinking ability between students who have a level of thinking very critical, critical, quite critical, less critical and not critical.
