Abstract

This research paper is mainly intended to find out whether or not the English textbook used for the ninth year students of Junior High School entitled “ENGLISH ON SKY 3” is suitable with the criteria of good textbook based on Robinett theory. This research applies descriptive qualitative method. In collecting the data, the writer used documentary method. The data were analyzed through these steps: (1) presenting the materials and indicators of good textbook based on Robinett, (2) comparing the materials, (3) judging whether or not the English textbook is suitable with the theory of Robinett. The result of this research shows that the percentage of compatibility of the consistency of English textbook with Robinett theory is 90, 8 %, it means that the contents of the textbook are suitable with the indicators of good textbook by Robinett, although there are 4 points that are not appropriate with the theory, those are: there is no workbook, no flash cards and poster, and there is no a set of test as a review material, and in the teacher’s guide there is no alternative and supplementary exercises. This research implies that the Englsih textbook entitled “ENGLISH ON SKY 3” is a good textbook or good materials by the ninth year students of Junior High School.
