Abstract

The aims of this paper are classifying the types of error and the source of errors and describing the types of error and the source of errors made by the first grade student of SMK Muhammadiyah Delanggu in using conditional sentence, to describe the number of errors of conditional sentence type 1 in types of error and the sources of error. This research applied descriptive one and it was done in SMK Muhammadiyah Delanggu. The writer took first grade students (X AK1) as the subject of the study. In collecting the data, the writer used a test as an instrument. The test consists of 25 items. In analyzing data the writer uses descriptive method that includes collecting data, identifying error from the student’s answer sheets, classifying errors based on the conditional sentence type 1. The result of the study shows that the total errors made by the students is 236 (23,6) out of the 100 student’s answers. The type of errors (1) omission of to be (9 errors or 3,8%), omission of subject (6 errors or 2,5%), omission of verb (10 errors or 10,2%), omission of article (3 errors or 1,3 %), omission of auxiliary (40 errors or 16,8%),(2) addition in double marking (43 or 17,1%), addition in regularization (16 or 7,7%), addition in simple addition (7 or 2,9 %), (3) misformation in regularization (27 or 11,3%), misformation in archi-form (42 or 18%), misformation in alternating form (2 or 0,8%), (4) misordering in word order (10 or 4,2% ), misordering in false concept sentence(11 or 4,7%) . So, the dominant types of errors is misformation and the lowest frequency of errors is misordering There are two source of errors, they are: interlingual transfer (45 or 29,4%) and intralingual transfer (40 or 23,5%). This research show that the students still make errors in using conditional sentence type 1 and they need improvement to develop their skill especially in learning conditional sentence.
