Abstract

This research paper aimed at finding the correlation between Indonesian passive voice mastery and English passive voice mastery of the third year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Delanggu in 2008 / 2009 Academic Year. The subject of this research is the third year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Delanggu. There are 90 students in 3 classes. The writer uses cluster random sampling in taking sample and she gets 30 students from class XII PJ. In collecting the data, the writer gives Indonesian passive voice test and English passive voice test. To measure the validity and reliability of the taking the writer uses validity is used to know the reliability the writer uses alpha cronbach. While in analysis the data, the writer product moment. Based on the data calculation, it shows that the obtained rxy are 0,381 while rtable is 0,361. It is significant is 0,05. If the obtained rxy is higher than rtable the obtained rxy 0,381 is positive. So there is a positive correlation between Indonesian passive voice mastery and English passive voice mastery. The contribution of Indonesian passive voice mastery in increasing English passive voice mastery is 0,145% (coefficient determination). It means that Indonesian passive voice mastery has role in increasing English passive voice mastery, although it contributes small percentage. Finally, the writer finds that there is a positive/significant correlation between Indonesian passive voice mastery and English passive voice mastery of the third year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Delanggu. The students who have a good mastery on Indonesian passive voice will also have a good mastery on English passive voice. On the contrary students whose Indonesian passive voice mastery is poor, their English passive voice mastery will also be poor.
