Abstract
This study aims to develop a composite material of coconut coir waste for cooling-pad in a cooling system with water in the utilization of coconut coir waste. Tools and materials used are pressure equipment, composite molds, digital scales and other tools needed in the process of making composites. While the main ingredients of the composite are coconut fiber waste and unsaturated polyester 157 BQTN resin. The hardener used is MEKPO with a concentration of 1%. Composites are made by the press mold method. The volume fraction of the composite reinforcement is 50% and 60%. Specimens and procedures for tensile testing and water uptake refer to ASTM D 638 and ASTM D 570 standards. The results of this study show that the tensile strength and strength of composite water absortion increase with the addition of fiber volume fraction. The tensile strength of composites has the most optimum value at the volume fraction of Vƒ 60% which is 10.197 MPa. The most optimum water absorption at the powder volume fraction Vƒ 60% with 15 days of immersion is 1.26%.
