Abstract

This study aims to understand and describe the meaningfulness of the lives of theater performers in Surakarta. The research method used is Qualitative Phenomenology where data collection is obtained from semi-structured interviews. Criteria for informants in this study are theater arts performers who have been in the theater for at least five years and are still in process until now. The results obtained from this study are the background of two of the three informants choosing theater arts because the theater informants can be more grateful for life. Then one informant has a reason for choosing theater because he managed to take a positive attitude in his traumatic experience in the family by way of theater. The three informants were grateful for what they had obtained and considered their lives to be prosperous. Their efforts in achieving the meaning of life are carried out by continuing to practice and consider all obstacles as challenges that must be faced. In achieving the meaning of life with theatrical arts, there are factors that support the meaning of informants' lives, namely support from the closest people and there are also factors that hamper the meaning of informant's life is the absence of competent human resources and also the advancement of the digital era so that there are more rival media. Achievement of the meaning of life obtained by the three informants is happiness, working wholeheartedly, producing art, preserving culture and can be useful for the community
