Abstract

Coupling is one of the machining elements which is important in the transmission at the water pump. The clutch functions as a successor to the power from the drive shaft (engine) to the shaft that is driven. Bushed pin coupling is usually used for aligning the two shafts which are slightly imperfect. This is a modified form of flange coupling. This type of clutch has pins and works with clutch bolts. A rubber or leather bush is used above the pin. The clutch has two different parts in construction. The pins are rigidly fixed by a bolt to one of the flanges and left loose on the other flange. The twisting moment released by the main engine can cause failure and damage to the clutch, especially on the bolts and pegs. Damage to the engine is a big problem because the transmission of power from the main engine to the pump shaft will be disrupted. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the strength of each component of the bushed pin coupling using the finite element method to determine good material selection of the coupling component. From the analysis of shear stress on each component has different strengths such as the shaft of 18.69 N/mm2, the flanges of 1.16 N/mm2, the hub of 2.49 N/mm2, the bolt 14 , 1 N/mm2, and on the key of 18.68 N/mm2
