Abstract

Introduction: Empathy is an important factor in supporting positive relationships between nurses and patients and families. The better the nurses empathize with nursing actions, the higher the level of patient and family satisfaction. Therefore empathy assessment for nurses students needs to be done. Objective: to describe the assessment of the family about the empathetic abilities of nurses. Research methodology: This research is a quantitative study with a descriptive design using a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted on 71 students of professional nursing programs who are carrying out clinical practice with Community and Family Nursing stases. The assessment instrument uses the Reynolds Empathy Scale (RES). Results: The results showed that the average value of student empathy was 51.96 and the standard deviation was 4.030. family perception that most students have a moderate level of empathy with a frequency number of 67. Conclusion: The level of empathy in nurses as a whole is in both moderate categories.
