Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of dies materials and pressure in the Aluminum remelt casting process on chemical composition and microstructure. Material of this research uses used Aluminum. The specimens in this research were guided by rules developed by PSTBM-Batan. The function of Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX) test is to find out of chemical composition and phase distribution formed. While the function of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) test is to analyze more detail condition surface and microstructure of Aluminum casting. The result of this research show that some phase formed from product of sand casting, such us Al, Al2Zn3, and AlSi, proven from the EDX test. While form the SEM test result show significant comparison between product of sand casting and permanent die casting. Where product of permanent die casting shows finer and denser grain sizes. While from product of pressure die casting indicate less shrinkage porosity defect compared to permanent die casting.
