Abstract

This research is aimed at describing the translation process at the novel The Lord of The Ring: The Fellowship of The Ring and Its Translation. Here, the objective of the study is to describe the equivalence of English novel structure and its translation. The writer applies Structural Elements of the Novel Approach in doing the research, because he wants to analyze the translation process or Novel Structure. Based on the analysis, the writer finds (1) There are 76 data of equivalence and non-equivalence of translation which consist of 66 data of equivalence translation and 10 data of non-equivalent translation. The equivalence translation consist of 30 data of Character and Characterization, 20 data of setting of place and time, 3 data of plot, 3 data of point of view, 9 data of style and 1 data of theme. The percentage of the number of equivalence translation is 66 data or 86.85 % from 76 data. And the non-equivalence of translation consists of 9 data of Character and characterization, and 1 data of setting of place. The percentage of the number of non equivalence translation is 10 data or 13.15 % from 76 data. So, the translations are dominated as equivalence translation. (2) Almost all of the data show element of structure of novel as equivalence that contain naturalness, no addition or omission of some information. All the data are analyzed and classified into several classifications in term of the novel structure based on their uses in the Characters and Characterization, Setting, Plot, Point of View, Style and Theme.
