Abstract

Cervical cancer is cancer that occurs in the cervix which is the organ that connects the vagina and uterus and is caused by the Human papillomavirus (HPV) virus. One impact of cervical cancer patients is that it can cause psychological or mental problems that can occur depression. Depression is a human disorder that involves natural feelings of sadness, changes in sleep patterns, appetite, psychomotor, concentration, fatigue, feelings of despair to suicide. When a cervical cancer patient is depressed, the patient really needs a coping mechanism based on the source of information around him. The main source of coping for patients is family support. Family support is the attitude, the act of family acceptance of family members. This type of research is quantitative research. This study focuses and explains the relationship between variables and analyzing hypotheses that have been designed. The place for this research was at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Doctor Moewardi Surakarta at the Obgyn Oncology Poli. This research method is descriptive correlation using an approach that is Cross Sectional. Obtained a sample of 85 respondents. From the results of the study, the most family support is in the Good category, namely 60 respondents (70.6%), then the second is 23 respondents (27.1%) and the last is less than 2 respondents (2.4%). And for the level of depression most of the patients with cervical cancer who experienced mild depression were 61 respondents (71.8%) and those with moderate depression were 24 respondents (28.2%). The results of rank-spearman analysis test obtained p-value = 0.001 Ha is accepted if p value <0.05, then there is a relationship between family support and the level of depression in cervical cancer patients. Conclusion: There is a relationship between family support and the level of depression in cervical cancer patients. As for Correlation Coefficient, it can be concluded that the relationship between family support and the level of depression in patients with cervical cancer is strong and the direction of correlation is negative
