Abstract
This study aims to determine: (1) the role of the teacher in the selection of student learning styles on economic subjects; (2) factors that support and hinder the role of the teacher in the selection of student styles in economic subjects. This research is a type of qualitative research carried out in the field. This research was conducted in class X at Nguter 1 Negeri High School in 2019/2020 school year. Sources of data obtained from primary data from interviews with informants: teachers and students. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using qualitative analysis with interactive models consisting of data collection, data reduction, verification, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that: (1) The role of the teacher in the selection of student learning styles. The majority of students studied have mixed learning styles (53.3%), then visual learning styles by 20%, auditory learning styles by 16.7%, and kinesthetic learning styles for only 10%. The teacher has an important role to maximize the potential of students' learning styles, namely: the teacher can make a personal approach to each student and then make adjustments to the appropriate learning strategies / methods, the teacher can work so that the classroom atmosphere runs conducive, the teacher can present learning media can be accepted by all students, and the teacher can provide input to students in maximizing their learning style; (2) Supporting and inhibiting factors of the teacher's role in the selection of student learning styles. Factors that support include, among others, the availability of learning tools or media, student motivation to learn is quite high, a supportive classroom atmosphere and teacher readiness in teaching. While inhibiting factors include individual differences in learning, problems at school and outside school that affect student concentration in learning, and limited time, teachers have difficulty in managing teaching time. To overcome these inhibiting factors, a teacher needs to understand and master learning innovations so that they have the mental readiness and ability to implement various approaches and learning models to support success in carrying out teaching and learning activities.
