Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the volume of reinforcement combination of sengon wood powder and coconut shell powder against the tensile strength, bending and impact of polyestermatrix with multiplex comparison. The pattern of failure begins with macro photos. The main material of the study was sengon laut wood powder and coconut shell powder with 157 BQTN unsaturated polyester resin and MEKPO Hardener with a concentration of 1%. Composites are made by pressmold. The volume fraction of composite core composites is 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. Tests carried out are tensile test, buckling test, impact test and density test with approval on ASTM D-3039 standard for tensile test, ASTM D-790 for buckling test, ASTM D-6110 for impact test and ASTM C-271 for density test. The results of this study indicate that the optimum tensile strength of hybrid core composites is in the volume fraction of 40% with a value of 13.88 MPa. The optimum hybrid core bending strength is found in the volume fraction of 40% with a value of 33.93 MPa. For optimum impact strength, there is a volume fraction of 40% with 0.0313 J / mm2. The density is as high as 5 mm and 10 mm in the 10% volume fraction of 1.216 gr / cm3. Fracture mechanism ,. In the tensile test of fractions 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% have brittle fracture (Brittle Fracture). For the bending test of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% fiber volume fraction has brittle fracture. In the impact test of fiber volume fraction 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% have brittle fracture (Brittle Fracture). For the comparison of the strengths of hybrid core and multiplex composites, hybrid core composites are proven to have higher strength in bending and impac test compared to multiplex, multiplex only has a bending strength of 17.53 MPa, for impac strength of 0.0134 j / mm2 and in the test multiplex tensile strength is higher than that of composites of 26.11 MPa. Multiplex has the lowest density of 0.760 gr / cm3 and 0.801 gr / cm3.
