Abstract

Industries that use coal produce fly ash which has the same content as cement, namely silica (Si). Fly ash obtained from PT. Concrete Varia Enterprises contain silica (Si) and calcium (Ca). Iron lathe waste is waste generated from the lathe workshop or the metal coating industry. Thus fly ash and iron lathe waste can be used as a material for mixing and adding to paving blocks. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the use of fly ash as a mixture of cement and iron lathe waste as added material in paving blocks, because paving blocks are now increasingly popular for alternative road pavement. This research uses cube-shaped specimen 7 x 7 x 7 cm, beam 20 x 11 x 8 cm, and I shaped with height 10, width 20, length 35 cm. Tests in this study are testing water absorption, compressive strength and pure tensile strength. There are 4 variations in the manufacture of test specimens, namely 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% fly ash from the cement volume and each variation can add 5% of iron lathe waste from the volume of the mold with the composition of 1 cement: 3 sand using fas 0,3 . The results of the compressive strength test 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% fly ash enter the quality of D. The test results of the absorption of water 0% fly ash enter the quality D, while 10%, 20% and 30% fly ash enter the quality C The results of pure tensile strength test decreased in each variation, the optimum value of pure tensile strength of 0.870 MPa with 0% fly ash and minimum value of pure tensile strength of 0.673 MPa with 30% fly ash.
