Abstract

The metal will undergo phase changes during the casting process, both physical and mechanical changes caused by the freezing process. Changes in these properties, among others, influenced the cooling media used during the cooling process because the physical and mechanical properties of a metal is very important in construction machinery. So in this study different cooling media were used, namely: SAE40 oil, SAE 90 oil, SAE 140 oil. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of red sand molds on the composition of chemical mixtures, hardness, microstructure in aluminum cast products by cooling using oil .. From the hardness test of the test object with oil media SAE140 has a better hardness value than SAE 40 oil and SAE 90 oil. From the results of testing the chemical composition there are 17 elements, but only 5 of the most influential elements in cast aluminum are Si, Fe , Cu, Mn and Zn are the most dominant. Judging from the elements that exist in this material can be classified as metal aluminum alloy silicon (Al-Si).
