Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) the ability to empathize children in class 3A elementary school 04 Kemiri; (2) the implementation of social guidance in an effort to foster empathy in class 3A elementary school Kemiri 04; (3) obstacles encountered in implementing social guidance in class 3A elementary school 04 Kemiri; and (4) solutions to overcome obstacles in the implementation of social guidance in class 3A elementary school 04 Kemiri. This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data uses triangulation techniques with sources and methods. The results showed: (1) The ability to empathize grade 3A students at elementary school 04 Kemiri was good. (2) The social guidance program has been implemented at elementary school 04 Kemiri which is carried out by classroom teachers with the assistance of subject teachers and school principals with direct monitoring by the school principal. (3) Obstacles in the implementation of social guidance namely students are less open with others, students lack understanding of guidance, teachers lack understanding of social guidance, teachers cannot pay attention to the needs of all students, teachers are less smart using technology, infrastructure facilities provided by schools are less complete, and the guidance schedule is erratic. (4) Solutions to overcome the obstacles that occur in social guidance namely students and teachers as well as the principal establish close relationships, teachers better understand the needs of students, teachers learn to understand social guidance more deeply, the school tries to complete the facilities and infrastructure of guidance, and make a routine schedule once a week for guidance.
