Abstract

This study aim to determine the effect of time on the compounds formed hardness and wear resistance on the surface of commercially pure titanium. This research was conducted with a time variation of 60, 75, 90, 105, 120 minutes with a voltage of 60 keV and a current of 100 Ma. After ion implantation process XRP testing, hardness and wear resistance are tested. From the test result, the initial hardness value of 105, 75 VHN with the optimum ion implantation process for 90 minutes increased to 170,6 VHN. While the hardness of the cross-section point closest to the surface has a hardness that is almost the same as the surface and has a decrease in hardness at the point bellow. At the initial wear test of 4,0148 x 10-8 mm2/kg a decrease of 1,78 x 10-9 mm2/kg. These changes occur due to the formation of TiN compounds on the surface of commercially pure titanium after ion processing has been processed.
