Abstract

Ice breaker has an important role in the learning process in class. The purpose of this study describes; (1) the application of ice breakers in building student learning readiness at MI Tegalrejo Sawi; (2) the application of ice breakers in fostering student enthusiasm for learning at MI Tegalrejo Sawit; (3) the impact of ice breaker for teachers in learning and solutions to overcome the weaknesses of ice breakers in MI Tegalrejo Sawit. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques used observation, interview, and documentation methods. Data validity with source triangulation and technical triangulation. Data analysis techniques from this research are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of research that has been done, it can be concluded (1) ice breaker can help students build student learning readiness at MI Tegalrejo Sawit with the readiness to learn about an object or activity it will encourage someone to pay more attention to the object (2) ice breaker can help students foster student enthusiasm at MI Tegalrejo Sawit. Through the application of ice breakers students can return to the spirit of learning again. (3) the advantages/positive impact of ice breaker which is to help students to focus on learning, help students more enthusiastic learning again. The disadvantages include students being bored with the same ice breaker, there is no ice breaker variant, apart from that there are one or two students who do not participate in the ice breaker because they are busy themselves and do not pay attention to the teacher. Overcome the weaknesses of the ice breaker by the teacher establishing closeness to all students. Besides, it does not apply monotonous ice breaker, so students do not get bored with the ice breaker.
