Abstract

According to Dewanty (2017) land from Troketon Village, Pedan District, Klaten Regency has a PI value of 48.07%, LL value of 74.24%, PL value of 26.35%, and SL value of 25.65%. In the soil classification system according to USCS, the soil belongs to the CH group, namely non-organic clay soil with high plasticity. Then according to AASHTO, the land belongs to group A-7-6 which is a clay soil material with general assessment of subgrade as moderate to bad. With such conditions when the rain will experience land development and when the dry land has experienced shrinkage which results in non-uniform decline in buildings. To overcome this problem in this study a vertical drain method was used with a red brick powder column as reinforcement. This test uses a loading test tool. In this test using 6 samples with a variety of foundations and columns of red brick powder itself. Based on the overall results of tests in the laboratory, the maximum load value is greater and the value of decreasing value is reduced in clay using the red brick powder column reinforcement. Based on the results of research that has been done it can be concluded that enlarging the diameter of the palm foundation is more effective in increasing the maximum load value than increasing the diameter of the red brick powder column.
