Abstract

Background: Bell’s palsy is a disorder of the facial nerve that causes weakness or paralysis of the muscles abruptly on one side of the face. In the case of bell’s palsy, physioytherapy role is prevent further complications. Physiotherapy intervention technologies that can be used in case of bell’s palsy varies, some of which are ES (electrical stimulation), and massage. Objective:To determine the benefits of ES (electrical stimulation), and massage in increasing the strength of the facial muscles and improve functional ability of facial muscles in patients bell’s palsy. Results:After 5 times act with ES (electircal stimulation), massage and as follows: a) m. frontalis T1: 0 become T5: 1, b) m. corrugator supercili T1: 1 become T5: 1, c) m. orbicularis oculli T1: 1 become T5: 5, d) m. procerus T1: 0 become T5: 1, e) m. nasalis T1: 1 become T5: 3, f) m. zigomaticum mayor and m. zigomaticum minor T1: 0 become T5: 1, g) m. orbicularis oris T1: 3 become T5: 3, h) m. depresor anguli oris T1: 0 become T5: 1, i) m. buccinator T1: 0 become T5: 1, j) m. mentalis T1: 1 become T5: 1, k) m. risorius T1: 0 become T5: 0. While the results of measurement of the ability of functional activity using Ugo Fisch Scale as follows: a) break T1: 6 become T5: 14, b) frown T1: 0 become T5: 3, c) a close eye T1: 0 become T5: 21, d) smiling T1: 0 become T5: 9, e) whistling T1: 7 become T5: 7. Conclusion:The provision of intervention by ES (electrical stimulation), and massage can be beneficial to increase the strength of muscles of the face and the ability of the functional activity of the facial muscles in bell’s palsy.
