Abstract

The Javanese alphabet is one of the priceless cultural relics. The alphabet is known as Hanacaraka and Carakan. The Javanese alphabet is still difficult for students to understand and makes students passive in the learning process. This makes students' low skills in reading and writing the Javanese alphabet. Based on the results of observations made in Elementary school 1 of Kartasura, the media used during the learning process were in the form of textbooks and still using the lecture method. Therefore this study aims to improve the ability to read Javanese alphabet through games for third-grade students of Elementary school 1 of Kartasura, validity the game and compare student learning outcomes before and after using a game-based learning media application. The method used in this research is Research and Development using the ADDIE (Analysis-Design-Development-Implementation-Evaluation). The results of the assessment of media tests on aspects of efficiency, appearance, technique, and software get high average values so that of the four aspects are included in the very feasible category. The average value before using an educational game-based learning media application is sufficient, whereas after using an educational game the student's score becomes high. The average value before using the media is quite enough, while after using the media is high. It can be concluded that by using this game-based learning media the students' grades increased.
