Abstract

Thalassemia is a disease caused by a genetic syndrome caused by an inability in the spinal cord which results in decreased synthesis of one of the chains in the main hemoglobin (Hb A) that is often found in the world. The number of thalassemia patients in Central Java, especially in Boyolali. Children with thalassemia need good nutrition in the process of treatment and care both at the hospital and at home. Parents are the care gifer of children during care and treatment, so parents must be able to know the child's nutrition during thalassemia care and treatment. Nutritional status of thalassemia children is very important to be monitored by parents so that there is no delay in the growth of children. The purpose of this study was to describe the nutritional status of thalassemia children. This research method uses descriptive with cross sectional approach. This study was followed by 50 children with a diagnosis of thalassemia who were selected by accidental sampling technique. The results showed 8% malnutrition status and 92% showed good nutritional status. The conclusion from the study is that the nutritional status of thalassemia children is good.
