Abstract

Introduction: Mother’s knowledge on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding should have started when the mother is still in a phase of pregnancy, so that she can prepare exclusive breastfeeding properly. Increased knowledge of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding can be enhanced by the existence of nutritional education, one of them with counseling through flip chart media. Based on the preliminary survey of exclusive breasfeeding in Tuban health center, the coverage of the implementation of the program in 2017 was still 61,7% and it had not reached standard yet, which was 64,4%. Purpose: This research aimed to find the effect of counseling using flipchart to the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding in Tuban Health Center in Tuban District. Research Methodology: This research belonged to a quantitative research applying study design of quasi experimental design whith one group pretest posttest design. The subjects involved in this research consisted of 64 samples of pregnant women, taken for four villages in Tuban Health Center. Pretest data were collected before the intervention in the form of counseling on exclusive breastfeeding as much as one with a flip chart, and then, two weeks later, they were given posttest. Analysis of the data used the Wilcoxson Test which had been validated previously in normality test data. Result: Mother’s knowledge prior to the counseling had a good value of 36,7%, following an increased of knowledge after joining counseling that was 85%. Before counseling positive attitude was 33,3%, and the positive attitude increased to 86,7% after getting counseling. There was positive influence from the using of the flip chart to the level of knowledge of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,000). Fourthemore, there was no influence of illumination with a flip chart against the attitude of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,000). Conclusion: There was the effect of counseling with flip chart on the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about exclusive breastfeeding.
