Abstract

Abstract Teacher competence is one of the factors that can affect students' learning processes and outcomes. Therefore, to achieve the success of education to produce quality students, an effort is needed to improve teacher competencies including pedagogical and personality competencies. In this regard, principals who have the role of managers are expected to provide opportunities for teachers to be able to improve their abilities professionally through various training and education programs. Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School Surakarta is one of the best high school in Surakarta, where students have quite outstanding achievements both in the academic and non-academic fields. The formulation of the problem of this research is what efforts are made by the principal, and whether the efforts made by the principal are in accordance with with pedagogical and teacher personality competency standards and how pedagogical and teacher personality competencies in Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School Surakarta Senior High School 2018/2019. The purpose of this study is to describe the efforts made by school principals, then to identify the efforts made by school principals whether they are in accordance with pedagogical and teacher personality competency standards and to describe pedagogic competencies and teacher personality competencies at Al Abidin High School Bilingual Boarding School Surakarta. This research is a type of field research with a qualitative research approach to phenomenology, then collecting data using interviews, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, the data analysis uses qualitative data in the form of a narrative rather than numbers. The steps are through the process of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, as well as concluding by using the deductive method of making theory as a keyword to understand a phenomenon that occurs through theory adjusted to the data. Based on the results of the analysis of research data, it can be concluded that the principal's efforts to improve pedagogical competence and teacher personality competency are by holding a number of programs including workshop training activities, religious guidance (mentoring), supervision of learning, encouraging teachers to take MGMP, training to improve English teachers (English Forum for Teacher), further education, and giving appreciation or rewards for teachers who excel. The principal's implementation of the program is inseparable from the needs and expectations of teachers in improving pedagogical and personality competencies. Then for the state of pedagogical competence of the teacher, it is quite good, it can be proven through the academic achievements of the students, as the results of the National Examination of the students in the 2018/2019 academic year for some subjects get a score of 100 or perfect score. Furthermore, the teacher's competence is also quite good, name wise, stable, mature, dignified, and noble personality. It also can be proven from the personality of students who are friendly, disciplined, having good morals with fellow friends, teachers or educators, as well as with others.
