Abstract

This study aims to determine the competence of teachers, obstacles, and solutions in developing integrative thematic learning media. This research method uses a qualitative type using a case study design. The technique of collecting data uses interviews, observation and documentation. The data of this study are primary and secondary data processed using analytical techniques with data reduction steps, data presentation, and data verification. The validity of the data uses source triangulation and technical triangulation. The results of the study show that: 1) the teacher's ability to develop integrative thematic learning media is quite good. Seen in the implementation of learning, the teacher uses a variety of media, both visual based media, audio and audio visual. other than that, teachers use school facilities, environment around the school, preparing media from home, integrate media with themes and sub themes of learning, reuse media, and peer review with colleagues. 2) In developing integrative thematic learning media, namely: students have not read fluently, there is less time for the teacher to prepare the media for tomorrow's learning because of the many activities besides teaching, both at school and at home, not all students are active in learning because they lack confidence, students are very enthusiastic so that the classroom atmosphere is not conditioned, facilities and infrastructure are inadequate due to lack of funds, the location to carry out learning outside the narrow class is only 1414 m², and some of the tools and materials are hard to come. 3) Solutions that can be done by the teacher to overcome these obstacles, namely: the teacher gives additional hours and sconnecting books, the teacher prepares the media when there is loose time, because making and preparing media is part of the teacher's learning process, do competition, sanction students who make noise, the teacher maximizes the materials around the school, communicate with other teachers when going to carry out learning outside the classroom, and ask students to provide their own tools and materials.
