Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the time management carried out by working mothers. The research method used is descriptive qualitative data collected through interviews. Data were obtained from four informants with predetermined criteria, namely mothers working outside the home, aged 25-49 years, having the first child aged five years or under (toddlers), with working time of approximately 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday. The results of this study indicate that working mother managing their time by setting priorities and making children and family as a top priority. Another way that is done by the subject is to take advantage of breaks in the office to do work so that they do not meet overtime. Furthermore, the mother works managing her time by getting up early to do homework, taking care of the child, and then preparing to work. In addition, to maintain closeness with children, the subject conducts video calls every day, and utilizes weekends for quality time with family by going to the mall, playground, or just playing and studying at home. In this study, it was found that the time management of working mothers is influenced by the family structure by the time family structure in the home. Extended family in which there are mothers of informants, do the division of task in completing homework and taking care of children. When working, the mother entrusts her home and child affairs to helpers and caregivers. There are also mothers who submit this to their husbands and parents. The thing that is the reason why mothers work is to avoid boredom, add insight, meet daily needs, the existence of economic problems, and the desire to pursue a career.
