Abstract

Griya PMI provides a place for the elderly who come from social services because they are neglected, entrusted their families or netted security guard PP. After living in an orphanage, various problems will arise and can affect the quality of life of the elderly after being entrusted by the family including physical (unable to walk, itching, and cataracts), social (misunderstanding, difficulty communicating with the elderly with reduced hearing and adaptation) and psychological (miss meeting family and no guest visits). Elderly people who have good subjective well-being are able to interpret and enjoy life after living in an orphanage. The purpose of this study is to describe the problems experienced by the elderly after living in an orphanage and how subjective well-being in the elderly after living in an orphanage. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data obtained from informants numbered 5 were obtained using purposive side techniques with the criteria of the elderly who live in social institutions because they were left by their families in the Griya PMI Surakarta. Data collection uses in-depth interviews. The study uses data analysis with descriptive narrative techniques. The results of this study found that the form of subjective well-being in a person varies in accepting and interpreting the life of submission to God with routine in performing worship, optimistic by having the spirit and purpose of life for the future by having the desire to rise, and having a relationship that is positive by being able to adjust and interact socially well.
