Abstract

The process of connecting metals with welding techniques is widely applied in the transportation industry such as automotive, shipping, railways and airplanes. In the course of the weld connection there are some corrective corrections and this can be achieved with the rapid development of welding technology today. One type of welding process that is relatively new is friction stir welding (FSW). This study aims to determine the process and characteristic results that occur when welding a single side method of friction stir welding (FSW) with variations of aluminum shielding material with aluminum, copper and aluminum, and copper with brass, testing is done using scanning electron microscopy testing (SEM). Welding in this study uses aluminum, copper and brass material, the connection uses a butt joint, the parameters used are the rotational speed of 1250 rpm, the feed speed is 12.5 mm / minute. Analysis is done by looking at the strength of the connection, the results of welding compared to other welding. The results of this test show the results of the characteristics of the smooth surface and on the joints of the same type and less smooth on the joints of different types, from the results of SEM photos identified product defects namely void, crack and porosity. The composition elements formed are still dominated by base metal materials, namely Al, Cu and CuZn.
