Abstract

Sunan Kalijaga is one of the members of Walisongo who attracts a lot of attention because of his initiative in conveying the teachings of Islam by using cultural culture that developed in the area of Central Java. The purpose of this thesis research is to find out what are the cultural strategies used by Sunan Kalijaga in developing Islamic education in Central Java. 1 ) What is the strategy used by Sunan Kalijaga in developing Islamic religious education in Central Java 2 ) What is the relevance of Sunan Kalijaga's cultural strategy in developing Islamic religious education in this contemporary. To achieve the research objectives, the Library Research method is used. Research intends to examine how Sunan Kalijaga's strategy in developing Islamic religious education in Central Java. The data collection technique used in this study is the documentation method. The data in this study were taken primary data and secondary data. Primary data obtained from the results of data collection techniques through literature that are directly related to Sunan Kalijaga and secondary data obtained from literature-literature that discusses the research title. The approach used is a historical philosophical approach. Then after all the data obtained and arranged in a structured and systematic manner, data analysis is carried out, using descriptive analysis. descriptive analysis is a direct and regular decryption, as well as a careful analysis, the data relating to Sunan Kalijaga's cultural strategy in developing Islamic education in Central Java, then describing important points, analyzing these points and interpreting them. Based on the analysis of the research, it was concluded that Sunan Kalijaga in developing Islamic religious education in Central Java had cultural strategies including through wayang kulit, tembang, grebeg sekaten, and architectural art (soko tatal mosque Agung Demak). The cultural strategy has educational values, among others, aqidah education about the pillars of faith and monotheism, moral education about the pillars of Islam, and sharia education about the relationship between God and humans and God. Some of Sunan Kalijaga's cultural strategies are still very relevant to be used in contemporary times including wayang kulit, tembang, and architecture. Whereas grebeg sekaten is not so relevant anymore because in this contemporary era sekeb grebeg only appears as an annual tradition to welcome the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
