Abstract

The welding technology itself is divided into several types, one of which is brazing welding. Brazing welding is a metal connecting process (component) using a bonding technique from added material which has a melting temperature lower than the melting temperature of the main material. The brazing welding process is a technology mostly used in industry to connect material in the form of pipes, sheets, or plates. The purpose of this study was to determine the stress and strain values of brazing welding joints without etching treatment and with etching treatment, to determine the effect of etching treatment on the surface of the brazing joints on tensile or shear tests, and to find out the results of micro photographs of welded joints. The method used for this testing process is Pull test, micro photo test, and macro photo test. The test results showed that the shear strength of brazing joints between 2 mm thick aluminum plates and 2 mm thick mild steel with alusol filler without etching treatment had the highest average shear stress of 9.267 MPa and the highest strain had a value of 0.91%. Shear strength on brazing connections between 2 mm thick aluminum plates and 2 mm thick mild steel with alusol filler with etching treatment for 20 minutes had the highest average shear stress of 18,429 MPa and the highest strain had a value of 2.60%. The 30 minute etching treatment has the highest shear stress of 22.957 MPa and the highest strain has a value of 4.39%. The 40 minute etching treatment has the highest shear stress of 26.993 MPa and the highest strain has a value of 4.66%. The results of the microstructure on the surface of aluminum and mild steel without etching processes tend to be more even and no surface roughening occurs. In aluminum and mild steel with etching treatment, it can be seen that there is surface roughening and the appearance of pores caused by the etching fluids.
