Abstract

Pottery is a kind of ancient pottery with clay raw materials that are formed in such a way with certain techniques and then burned at a temperature of 800 to 1000 degrees Celsius. The problems found in pottery in this case are the legal protection of pottery that has not been registered, the level of knowledge of the craftsmen and the obstacles faced by the pottery craftsmen to register the pottery products. This study uses a juridical-empirical approach method whose main data sources are primary data, namely interviews and legal documents, and also uses secondary data sources which are then analyzed qualitatively aimed at producing descriptive data. From this study, the results show that to register geographical indications, especially on earthenware products, it can be done as a procedure and the conditions set out in law number 20 of 2016 concerning brands and geographical indications. Seeing the level of knowledge of pottery craftsmen who do not yet know and understand the geographical indications, the benefits and importance of registering intellectual property rights and the obstacles faced by pottery craftsmen so that they do not register for pottery products.
