Abstract

Thesis which is part of the requirements for students to obtain a bachelor's degree is often a phase full of obstacles so it is very vulnerable to delay in completing it. The aims of this study is to determine the relation of perfectionism and parental support with academic procrastinationamong students that working on theirthesis. The population in this study were an actives students that working on their theses more than six month in the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta 80 participants were taken as sample from all of the faculty by using incidental sampling technique. The research’s method used in gathering data is quantitative with measuring instruments in the form of three scales. The data analysis was carried out by multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 16.0 for Windows auxiliary program. Based on data analysis between perfectionism variables and academic procrastination, the correlation coefficient (rxy) of -0.205 and (p) of 0.034 (p <0.05) means that there is a significant negative relationship between perfectionism and academic procrastination, which means higher perfectionism behavior the lower the academic procrastination conducted by students who are working on thesis Between the parent support variable and academic procrastination the correlation coefficient (rxy) of -0.3364 and (p) of 0.000 (p <0.01) which indicates a negative relationship very significant between the support of parents with academic procrastination in students who are working on thesis. Between the variables of perfectionism, parental support, and academic procrastination shows that there is a very significant relationship between perfectionism, parental support, and academic procrastination on students who are working on their thesis. Perfectionism variable influences academic procrastination variable by 4.20% and parental support variable influences academic procrastination variable by 13.24% then the remaining 82.56% is influenced by other variables such as individual physical condition, environment, and task characteristics.
