Abstract

The transformer is the most important part of the substation therefore a protection system must be needed that can protect the transformer so that it can work optimally and the transformer can have a long life. One system that protects the performance of the transformer is an oil isolation system, this insulation system has a very important role to protect the transformer from overheating due to eddy currents or overload which can make the transformer heat up and allow the transformer to explode transformers generally produce hazardous gases commonly known as fault gas because transformer oil functions in addition to being a coolant as well as a solvent for these harmful gases. Identifying the type and amount of dissolved gas concentration in the oil transformer can provide information on indications of failure that occurs in the transformer. This study discusses how the water solubility test and DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis) can identify failures that occur in the transformer. A number of samples were tested to determine the dissolved gas content contained in transformer oil by entering into the DGA test equipment. The result is a number of data showing the type of gas content and the level of fault gas concentration. Furthermore, various analysis methods are carried out to determine the failure indication on the power transformer Based on the data obtained it can be concluded that the transformer content of water solubility is still below normal at 14,06% while CO gas content is 6% and CO2 is 372.9% which can result in overheating off cellulose besides C2H6 gas content of 5.6 % caused by heating on transformer oil.
