Abstract

Most wind power plants use Horizontal axis blades. In this model, the blades and generators used have smaller dimensions. In this prototype using a Savonius type vertical blade, this type of blade is able to receive wind from any direction without turning in the opposite direction. The use of vertical blades does not require yaw and tail to look for wind so that construction is easier. Provision of blade support is done so that the rotor is not burdened by the weight of the blades, resulting in decreased rotor rotation. In order to obtain maximum results in the study used methods namely tool design, tool testing, data collection and analysis of results. The generator used comes from a dc motor which is behind the direction of rotation, which initially consumes electricity to produce electricity. The prototype is able to produce electricity at a speed of 2.8m / s at 257 rpm, while for raising the voltage using a boost converter starts at a voltage of 2.27 volts. The generator is able to charge batteries at 430 rpm and can turn on the lamp at 550 rpm. The shortage in using a dc motor as a generator is due to the presence of a charcoal brush that can run out, so that it is necessary to check and replace regularly.
