Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Knowledge of tuberculosis is very important for patients, efforts to provide health education provide a basic understanding of patients so as to minimize the incidence of the disease. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the level of knowledge and compare the differences in the level of knowledge of tuberculosis in tuberculosis patients at Balai Besar Kesehatan Paru Masyarakat Surakarta in 2019. This research is a quasi experimental study with analytical methods. Data is taken using the quota sampling method. The number of samples in this study were 60 respondents divided into 2 groups namely leaflet intervention group and elucidation intervention group with inclusion criteria for adult TB patients aged 18-65 years who had undergone treatment ≥3 months at BBKPM Surakarta. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. The results of this study indicate that 19 respondents (31.67%) had a good level of knowledge, 26 respondents (43.33%) had sufficient level of knowledge, and 15 respondents (25.00%) had a lack of knowledge about TB disease. Leaflet intervention group as many as 20 respondents (66.67%) and elucidation intervention groups 27 respondents (90.00%) experienced increased knowledge of TB disease. Elucidation method resulted in increased knowledge of patients with TB disease is higher with an average increase in value of 21.67% while the leaflet of 13.33%.
