Abstract

Study of the level of traffic congestion using the science and concepts of geography. The districts of Klaten Utara, Klaten Tengah, and Klaten Selatan are incorporated into the Klaten Kota area by many vehicles with large or light load of goods due to being the main road link between the provincial and regency roads from the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) to Central Java. The three districts become centers of economic activity, government, and trade, thus encouraging increasing traffic volume from year to year which encourages periodic traffic congestion. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of traffic congestion and study based on the geographical and spatial concept in part of the Klaten Utara, Klaten Tengah, and Klaten Selatan. The method’s with traffic survey in the morning at 07:00 to 09:00 WIB, afternoon at 12:00 to 13:00 WIB, and evening at 16:00 to 17:00 WIB, as well as the accuracy of visual interpretation. Remote sensing is used to determine the road network, road capacity adjustment factors for road width (FCw), road capacity adjustment factors for side barriers (FCsf), and road capacity adjustment factors for road dividers (FCsp). The results of road capacity are used to calculate the level of road service that is used as a reference in determining the level of traffic congestion. Processing and presenting maps of road service levels and levels of traffic congestion using a geographic information system (GIS). Map presentation also uses cartographic rules, so that the map becomes representative and attractive to the map reader. The Manual Kapasitas Jalan Indonesia 1997 as a reference in determining capacity, the level of road services, and the level of traffic congestion. Descriptive analysis made refers to the concept of location and the concept of spatial relevance. The results of the study in the form of traffic congestion in parts of the Districts of Klaten Utara, Klaten Tengah, and Klaten Selatan are dominated by low classes in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Medium class in the morning is on Jalan Pemuda Selatan and Jalan Andalas 1, while in the afternoon there is on Jalan Veteran and Jalan Andalas 1, while in the afternoon there is only Jalan Veteran. High classes in the afternoon and evening are only found on Jalan Pemuda Selatan. Study of the level of traffic congestion in some areas of the Districts of Klaten Utara, Klaten Tengah, and Klaten Selatan using geography knowledge and concepts.
