Abstract

ABSTRACT Gate system designing need to be done in order to create a better output product quality on casting procces. Such as riser, riser is one part of the gate system to containt excess amount of metal liquid as the metal would shrink and as a bait to supply it when the metal shringking. This research aimed to find out the chemical composition, the impact of the riser quantity on shrinkage, density, porosity, microstructure and hardness value of the material. This research conducted using remelted aluminium waste in the furnace, there were a conditions of the research, without riser, 1 riser,2 riser and 3 riser using lost foam casting method. The chemical composition test result the material consist of 78,32% Al, 12,0903% Si, 3,7737% Cu. The highest shrinkage percentage resulted on 3 riser which is 1,54 % higher than without riser at 1,42%, 2 riser 0,86% and 1 riser 0,86%. The density test result the higest density value obtained using 3 riser variation at 2,791gr/ml, while without riser resulted 2,736 gr/ml density value, 2,61 gr/ml using 1 riser, 2,622 gr/ml using 2 riser. 3 riser porosity value was lesser that the other variations. The microstructure on 3 riser variation was smother and spread equally. The product hardness value were 94,192 VHN on 1 riser variation, 100,028 VHN with 2 riser, 100,568 VHN without riser and 3 riser 109,766 VHN, therefore, the highest hardness value result obtained when using 3 riser variation.
