Abstract

The increasing demand for petroleum is a challenge that must be anticipated by finding alternative energy sources. One alternative is vegetable oil which can be used as raw material for making biodiesel. Biodiesel is an alternative energy from vegetable oils that can be used as fuel. One potential producer of vegetable oils is kapok seeds. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to make biodiesel from kapok seed oil with the transesterification esterification process. Biodiesel is made in several ways, namely making kapok seed oil by extraction, then making kapok seed biodiesel by the transesterification esterification method, after which the purification of the results and analysis of the biodiesel produced. Then data can be obtained from the results of the viscosity test,% of the results of density, acid number and composition of biodiesel by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed viscosity between 3.52-6.21 cSt, optimal results 82.9% at a temperature variation of 65oC the amount of catalyst was 3%, the density produced was 0.839-0.889 gr / cm3, the acid number produced was 0.29-0 , 58 mg KOH / gr.
